- John Nichol's 'The Unknown Warrior'
The Western Front Association was greatly honoured to have John Nichol as its guest on 11 November 2023 at the Cenotaph and as our guest speaker at the Guards Chapel after the ceremony. Many members will be aware of John's participation in the First Gulf War and his now famous book, 'Tornado down!' which details his extraordinary story as an airman and prisoner of war in 1991.
John has written a new book, 'The Unknown Warrior' and he will be setting out on a five week UK theatre tour this autumn, starting 4 October - see details below. As he now turns his attention to the Great War, we are very pleased to support John by bringing this to the attention of WFA members.
There have been a number of books about the Unknown Warrior but John writes with a particular voice - that of someone who has actually been in combat. John certainly tells the history, but he weaves into the narrative the human stories of both the Great War and also our more recent conflicts. He is quite open that the writing of this book was a journey for him, and we are gratified that he was able to work with a number of WFA members as he finalised his manuscript.
You can listen to John Nichol talking to Tom Thorpe for the latest 'Mentioned in Dispatches' podcast Ep.340 –The Unknown Warrior - John Nichol
